Finding the right balance
"I liked that ProjectSight was simple enough
that it didn't feel like it was trying to replace
human-to-human contact and accountability,"
he says. "Sometimes people just need to pick
up the phone and talk to each other." Williams
also liked that ProjectSight offered CPM the
right balance of customizability, ease of use
and price.
"I feel like other products just create more
questions than they do answers. Many of
them are designed to manage very large
projects but just don't make sense for the
average job. And frankly Procore's pricing
model is ridiculous. We didn't want to
overpay for something we don't need. We
wanted a system that can help us build a
$2 million store or a $25 million school or
something in between, and we've got that
with ProjectSight."
"We spent a lot of time laying this groundwork, and when
it felt solid, we were ready to invest in technology," William
says. Over the years, he had used a variety of software
ranging from small, boutique providers to Procore and
many in between. He even tried using almost nothing but
Microsoft products for a few years. These experiences
made him skeptical and even suspicious about the costs
and benefits of technology.
"People build buildings, not computers," Williams says.
"Construction operating systems don't need to be
complicated. I'm a rock and chisel kind of person. I think
technology can sometimes make us dumber, faster."
