Guide to Different Construction Procurement Methods | ©2022 ProjectSight
2. Design-Build
In Design-Build procurement, the project owner engages a single
firm to both design and build the project under a single contract.
This method is similar to the traditional DBB method of procurement.
Using a single entity for both stages of project production is less
complex and time-intensive.
This method has the advantage of producing open competition to
keep prices low. It works well for projects with easy-to-understand
specs or very thoroughly designed, but it presents a challenge for
projects without a specific scope. This method makes it difficult
for scope to shift, can be time-consuming to execute, and may
present legal risks.
Design-build construction offers many
advantages to owners and contractors,
including improved budget estimates, quicker
project completion, and better teamwork
between different entities.
