CASE STUDY
SHERWOOD COMPANIES
With several independent entities performing a wide range of civil
construction work in Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado, Sherwood
Companies turned to B2W Estimate to reconcile multiple estimating
systems. The results - in terms of standardization, simplicity and
saved time - have been exceptional, according to vice president of
construction Alan Farrington.
Challenges
Before implementing B2W Software, estimating solutions used among
companies under the Sherwood umbrella were as diversified as the
work types each company performs. They ranged from complex Excel
workbooks and simple Excel spreadsheets, to Lotus and Quattro
spreadsheets, to old-fashioned paper and pencil. One company had even
purchased a standalone version of HCSS Heavy Bid, but never got it off
the ground.
"Having multiple companies within the organization, each with its own
location, identity, resources, wage schedules and equipment rates, the
Sherwood Companies needed an estimating solution with flexibility and
multiple database capabilities, yet one that was still capable of being
supported from a central location," explains Farrington. "Since many of
our estimators were using Excel spreadsheets, seamless integration with
Excel was very important. We found the only system that could satisfy
our requirements was B2W Estimate."
B2W Solutions
Since making the switch, Farrington sums up his experience with B2W
Estimate in one word: simplicity. "We have four companies with offices
in six cities across three states all performing estimating from a single
