CASE STUDY P. FLANIGAN & SONS One of the Baltimore, Maryland area's oldest contracting companies relies on a clearly modern B2W Software platform for estimating and field tracking. P. Flanigan & Sons was founded in 1885 and specializes in transportation related construction projects and materials. In pursuit of a replacement for spreadsheets - and the effort and errors that came with them - the company originally purchased estimating software from another supplier. Estimators were frustrated by how difficult that system was to use and, after a 30-day trial, they opted out. An on-line demonstration illustrated the advantages of B2W Estimate, and the switch was quickly made. The B2W estimating solution continues to fulfill the vision of P. Flanigan & Sons, and then some, with ease of use being a key differentiator in allowing the company to produce intelligent estimates and well thought out bids, according to the director of estimating Tom Williams. He says the user interface makes it easy to navigate throughout the various parts of a bid, and that detailed reporting provides a comprehensive view of all costs associated with a job. "B2W Estimate plays especially well for DOT and Government bids, and the Cost Grouping Feature makes it easy to avoid mistakes such as doubling our crew costs on multi-faceted jobs," according to Williams. P. Flanigan & Sons also takes advantage of the flexibility of B2W Estimate - including Work Breakdown Structures - in a high volume of projects the company does as a subcontractor. "The large general contractors have their own specific requirements for how bids are structured," Williams explains. "The WBS capabilities give us the flexibility to meet those requirements and still maintain our own established ways of preparing bids." • Headquarters: Baltimore, Maryland • Work Types: Roads and Highways, Airports, Railroad Crossings, Marine Terminals, Paving, Materials • Elements: Estimate, Track • Client Since: 1999 • B2W User Conferences: 14 Formerly...
