Consolis: All in on BIM
Consolis is Europe's leading pre-cast concrete solutions provider,
with more than 11,000 employees in 21 countries around the world,
and generating 1.5 billion Euros in 2019.
As part of their digital transformation journey, Consolis has started
dialing in their use of BIM.
BIM Program Director Victor Snook has a vision for BIM's use
across the business: As a single source of truth for sales, design,
engineering, manufacturing, and project management. That is the
best way to collect and produce the kind of data Consolis needs in
order to improve efficiency, safety, and overall quality to the benefit of
their customers.
One of Snook's more recent initiatives is a group of 10 use cases, all
centered around BIM use cases that will benefit the business. Snook
worked with each business unit to highlight an issue they have or an
area where they would like to become more efficient.
"As an example," explains Snook, "one of the things we wanted to do
was to have a 3D visual in the kitting list. We've been using Tekla 3D
models for years but the production factories would often use 2D
drawings. So one of our use cases was to make the 3D model part of
the factory's day-to-day use."
Snook continues, "Our storeroom starting using the kitting list from
the 3D model to pull items together to go to the production floor. It's
a single source of truth for us and they [the factory] use the 3D model
everywhere now."
The success of the ten BIM use cases,Snook's biggest focus for the
next few years will be using BIM more consistently in more processes,
removing paper systems from Consolis' processes, and get a clear
understanding of the data they are using.
