S M A R T M A R K E T BR IE F IMPROVING THE CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS AND PAYMENT PROCESS Challenges in the Process Comparison Between Current Length of Time for Contractors to Assemble Applications of Payment and the Ideal Time According to owners and contractors who selected submission of progress payment requests among their top steps to accelerate NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT IN THE TIME REQUIRED FOR CONTRACTORS TO ASSEMBLE APPLICATIONS FOR PAYMENT Owners and contractors who selected the submission of progress payment requests by the contractor as a top step to accelerate to improve the progress and payment workflow (see page 11) were asked to compare the length of time currently needed for contractors to put together applications of payment to the ideal (but realistic) length of time that process should take. ■ 47% of owners and 58% of contractors believe that the current process takes more time than it should. ■ Only around 40% of owners and contractors think that it takes about the right amount of time. These findings show that a large portion of the industry recognizes that this process should be improved. The chart on the following page identifies the ways owners and contractors believe would be most effective to accelerate the process.
